Ad Agency Grad Schemes - 2011/12...

Some of these folks may end up working in adland....

Hi all.

This is (probably) the post you've been waiting for, if you're a regular reader of the site. The list of ad agencies that are running graduate schemes in the second half of 2011 are below. I'm sure I've missed one or two - do let me know in the comments:

AMV:

Shortly to open in October 2011 (here). You can keep an eye on the latest comings and goings by following their twitter account.

BBH:

BBH have no ‘formal’ graduate scheme running at the moment; instead, they have two initiatives – one of which is a ten week internship (the twitter’s here), though it appears the deadline’s past (and I’m unclear about whether it is US only or UK and US – does anyone from BBH London want to comment?), and another which is a formalised placement scheme. Check them out.

BMB:

BMB are running a ‘non grad grad scheme’, which is shortly to open. Whether you have a degree or not, you can apply. Keep an eye on it – it reportedly opens on the 1st of November.

CHI:

CHI’s grad scheme is due to open in December 2011. Watch this page like a hawk, as well as their twitter-stream.

Chime:

The Chime group (which comprises of Ad Agencies - VCCP - design and PR) are shortly to open their scheme. The page should be fully functional/open in November 2011.

Dare:

Dare’s grad scheme has yet to re-open this year. However, their Facebook page (which they used to recruit last year) hints that the graduate scheme is going to open in the Autumn. Their twitter streams (both for main agency and the graduates) should provide a hint as to when it’s going to open.

DAS Accelerate:

The DAS scheme has just launched. It shuts on the 3rd of January 2012. You can find out more about it on the DAS link above, or go straight to the application page here. Alternatively, you can check out their twitter here.

DLKW Lowe:

My old agency is looking for bright grads to come and join. You can find more details here. You’ll have to apply before midday on the 9th of November.

Elvis:

Elvis are shortly to announce their 2011 graduate scheme. Any activity will take place on their Facebook wall, which you can see here. Applications will open in Autumn.

JWT London:

JWT's graduate scheme is happening this year - find out more here and on the Facebook page (and the twitter stream). Applications shut on the 2nd of November.

Leo Burnett:

Leo’s have just launched their new graduate scheme, called ‘The Foundry’, aimed at both account handlers and planners. You can find out more about it here. (UPDATE - THE FACEBOOK PAGE IS NOW LIVE. ). Their twitter stream is here. Applications close on Friday 28th of October.

M&C Saatchi:

M&C’s site indicates that they are going to be recruiting graduates this year, but the link re-directs to a broken email link. They’ve recruited every year since I’ve written AdGrads, so it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled.

Ogilvy:

Ogilvy have a bumper crop of schemes that are shortly to open. They've been in touch. Both the Ogilvy Fellowship and Planning Fellowship open on the 14th of November, and will close on the 8th of January 2012. There's also a two month 'Summer Fellowship', which is going to open in early 2012. You can find out more about the Ogilvy Fellows by looking at their Facebook page, their twitter account or by looking on Youtube. Also, they are launching a competition on Monday (10th of October) for potential applicants to their open night, where top speakers from the group will be chatting. To get a place, you should write a tweet explaining why, and hashtagging it #OgilvyOpenNight.

RKCR/Y&R:

UPDATED: Rainey's grad scheme (for account management) is now live. It closes on the 28th of October.

WPP Fellowship:

WPP's 'golden ticket', 3 year, multiple country and marketing discipline scheme is now open. It shuts Thursday 10th of November at midday, GMT.

Good luck with all of these, guys. Again, let me know if I've missed any.

Hi, quick question and probably a stupid one. But if I graduate at the end of this academic year, should I be applying for these schemes now or this time next year?
Cheers, liam

Anonymous said...

Any news on DDB this year?

Anonymous said...

Are Omnicom and Publicis doing grad schemes like WPP? Thanks for the round-up. So helpful.

Will said...

Hello the Anons.

First Anon (Liam). These are all for a start date of next year, as far as I know.

Second Anon - I couldn't see anything. Anyone from DDB want to comment on this?

Third Anon - The Omnicom scheme is DAS. Publicis (the network) to my knowledge don't do a WPP-esque scheme. The main agency does, in the form of a summer school/paid placement.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for this. Any news on Engine, JWT or Ogilvy?

Anonymous said...

Hi, I am an aspiring creative. Are any of these placement/internships creative slanted?....Just so I don't waste mine or the agencies time.

Will said...

Hello other Anons.

JWT are indeed doing a scheme. Sorry I didn't pop that one up. It's up now.

Engine, I believe, has shut. It opened in September, and has already closed. Sorry for not alerting you guys to that - I had no contact from the guys. Their twitter stream is here: https://twitter.com/#!/EngineGrads

Ogilvy's scheme hasn't opened yet. They've recruited at different times in the past year or so (as well as a specific planning recruitment drive earlier this year). As soon as I hear of it opening, I'll put it up.

Last Anon - these are all account management/planning related. For creative opportunities, you'd do well to keep an eye on the YCC (Young Creative Council) who run a similar (creative led) site to AdGrads.

Anonymous said...

Engine's scheme (for September 2012 entry) actually hasn't opened yet - but it will soon. The page on their website saying applications has closed is from last year...

Anonymous said...

Good news about Engine! Do you know anything about Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe, MCBD or VCCP London ? Thanks so much for this summary!

Anonymous said...

VCCP usually take grads via their parent company's grad scheme - Chime Communications.

Anonymous said...

Helloo.

I went through the ad-grad scheme mangle last year and found myself in the final rounds with a number of agencies. Was always pipped to the post and found myself a home at a direct agency - I still dream of the dizzy heights of Leo's, JWT and the like and am considering trying my luck once again. Just wondering if you had an opinion on this - will my experience help or hinder? I only graduated in 2010, but concerned that I will no longer be seen as grad fresh meat! Thanks

Will said...

Hello Anons.

First one - I've not seen anything on 2012, but their twitter stream (@enginegrads) follows me. Probably worth firing them a note/tweeting them.

Second anon - Raineys have a link to their 2012 grad scheme, but it appears to be broken (couldn't get it to work in FF, Chrome or IE). Probably worth dropping their HR a note.

MCBD are now part of Dare, so I imagine the grad scheme will take in both parts of the business. As I mentioned in my post, keep an eye on the Dare links.

VCCP, barring the Chime grad scheme (which I'll put up shortly), don't, to my knowledge, have a grad scheme - the third Anon is right.

Fourth Anon - There's absolutely no problem with re-applying. I did, waaay back in 2006. Got more interviews too.

I hope that's helpful, chaps. As ever, drop a comment in the thread if one opens/i've missed one. Ogilvy have been in touch - am shortly to put details about that up.

Hi Guys,

I'm in my final year of uni. I made a load of applications last year. I got an interview with M&C Saatchi (but mucked up at interview; both feedback and reply to application email stated application itself was "excellent"). I used the answer to "what is your favourite campaign and why" in a applications to DKLW Lowe and JWT. Both these agencies have similar questions in their forms this year. Their both being sent to the same individual/email address as last year. My favourite communications campaign is still the one (from 2008) that I wrote about to M&C Saatchi, JWT and DKLW last year. Should I reconsider this favourite for this years' round of applications?

19061990 said...

Georgina, if its your favourite - it should really change with the tides... unless something new has topped it, but my answer to that question remains the same every time it's asked.

Will said...

Hi Georgina.

I'm with Jessicka - I used similar answers when I did the milkround (twice). I would think about potentially re-wording slightly, but if it's still your favourite, explain why/how it's endured - that'd give you a new angle to talk about.

Good luck with this year's.

Georgina said...

Thanks Will and jessicka,

Hi all,

I am on the Ogilvy Fellowship scheme and we launched a competition for potential applicants today to join us for our open night next month 10/11/11.

A great night to gain insight and find out all about the three fellowships. To win a spot tweet us on #OgilvyOpenNight telling us why you should come..

Hopefully meet some of you there.

Do you have any info on grad schemes up north
Thanks Jess

Aleksandar Grazhdan said...

Dear Will!
I have been following your blog for about a year and to be honest it gives the most organised information regarding the Uk Ad Schemes. This year I wish to try my luck again. Revising my "weak points" of the last year I've concluded that probably the most barring was the fact that although I have an European citizenship and there is no need for Visa to visit Uk, I need a work permit.

Do you think that it may be crucial in my applications? How much importance do ad employers give to this issue? Will anybody call me for an interview knowing that (if I am selected) I will need to apply for a work permit?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Will said...

Hi Jess.

In the past, I've not looked at these, but you could do worse than looking at the bigger agencies (LOVE Creative in Manchester, Golley Slater in various locations, JWT Manchester and McCann - various places) in non London locations. Those should provide a good starting point.

Aleksandar: Thanks for the kind words. I'm really pleased the blog's been helpful. In terms of the work permit, you should try to get in touch with the HR department. Usually, if an agency wants to employ someone, they'll sponsor them - it is harder when you have less experience though, for obvious reasons that it's a minor impediment that they wouldn't have to go through with another candidate. I would ring the HR department at a WPP, Publicis, Interpublic and Omnicom agency - each will tell you what their specific holding company's stance is. I wouldn't suggest ringing them all. They should be able to help. Good luck.

Jordan said...

Hi Will, thanks for the really useful post. Just a quick heads up: the RKCR scheme says on its site that it closes 24th, not the 28th.

Will said...

Jordan - I have had Raineys tell me via email it's the 28th....however, guys, I would use the site's deadline above all else. Always best to be completely sure/use the party/web line. :)

Anonymous said...

Anything from DDB?

Will said...

Hi Anon.

Not heard anything yet, I'm afraid.

Cheers,

Will

Anonymous said...

Any more news about Engine please?

Anonymous said...

Hi, The rkcr y&r link doesn't seem to be working and I can't find any trace of their grad stuff on Twitter, or any where else on the internet! Any idea what the problem is or where I could get the app form? Obviously the deadline is pretty soon!

Anonymous said...

Anon above, I've just checked the RKCR website and the form does open.. you have to click the balloon that comes down on the right hand side to access the forms.

Also, it seem's that they've noticed the deadline mistake and have rectified this, so it now says the 28th on the website!

Ok, now I need help! One of the RKCR questions states that we have to 'Write the story of your life in a single tweet (up to 140 characters) (50 words).' Now I'm a tad confused, is it 140 characters or 50 words? Because I've just written 50 words which works out well over 500 characters, so it's quite a difference! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Georgina said...

Hi (me again), does anyone know if the BBH application has a deadline?

Will said...

Hi Anons.

The RKCR scheme is, as the penultimate anon stated, on the right hand side (the balloon drop down).

In terms of Engine - I think the deadline for this year has passed.

Georgina - The BBH 'Homegrown' scheme (http://www.bbhhomegrown.co.uk/#apply-up) has no deadline. They'll be in touch with you if they like the sound of you, it'd seem.

Anonymous said...

Do you know of an equivalent blog to yours for New York schemes?

Anonymous said...

Hey thanks for posting all these grad scheme details, it's really useful :)

I'm just wondering if you know what's going on with Chi & Partners? They have a form to fill in on their website, but it doesn't state the deadline. I called them up this morning, and the guy said that they might be full... But then he was confused as to why the application form is still active. I'd like to apply but there's no point if my application is just gonna be discarded immediately if I've missed the deadline. The guy I spoke to couldn't really give me any more info.

Thanks, Catherine

Anonymous said...

Actually sorry I just realised that Chi applications open in December!
Thanks,
Catherine

Will said...

Hi Anon. No, I don't know of an NYC equivalent, but Miami Ad School might be a good place to start; they'll know most of the major deadlines, I reckon.

Catherine - it's up now, and applications close on the 25th of November.

Georgina said...

aaa... anyone else waiting now to hear back from JWT or RKCR/Y&R... *moral support* and feedback?

Anonymous said...

Yeah I'm waiting to hear from both companies, Georgina. I'm thinking we should hear soon from RKCR/Y&R, just hope it's going to be good news! I keep checking my YouTube views, but it doesn't seem like they've watched it yet!

Good luck :P

Georgina said...

what's your YouTube video?
I'll show you mine if you show me yours!
(georgina.brooke@st-hildas.ox.ac.uk)

also applied to DKLW Lowe

CHI&Partners said...

Hello,

The CHI&Partners grad scheme is actually open for applications now until 25th November (I see this has been updated in a later post, but just in case anyone misses it and just sees the one above...)

Go to www.chiandpartners.com/recruitment to apply.

Good luck!

Anonymous said...

Im thinking of sending something to WPP offices as support for my online application. Do you think they would be adverse to this? Also do you know if the recruitment team are based in London or Dublin?

Anonymous said...

Hey-

Just wondering if anyone has heard back from RKCR Y&R yet?

Cheers,

Anonymous said...

Nothing from RKCR Y&R yet for me, but I've been watching the views on my YouTube video like a hawk. Anyone heard from anyone else?

Anonymous said...

Still nothing from RKCR on my end, had my video viewed a couple of times over a week ago, but nothing apart from that!

Has anyone else heard from them yet? The not knowing is nearly becoming unbearable!

Anonymous said...

Anyone heard from JWT? I know they said they'd let everyone know before the 18th.

Anonymous said...

Nope I'm still waiting to here from JWT too. Wonder if they will just email the people who got an interview or let those who didn't know too!

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure - hopefully they'd let us know either way. But thanks for replying - it's nice to know I'm not the only one compulsively checking my inbox.

Anonymous said...

I think my RKCR Video has been watched.. so fingers crossed they start to get back to people soon!

Anonymous said...

Really? I think mine was viewed nearer the beginning of Nov, makes you wonder how many people have applied if they're still watching the videos!

I'm praying for interview offers from RKCR and JWT, got rejected from DLKW yesterday :(.

'When did you hear from JWT? Still on tenterhooks re: them, AMV BBDO and RKCR Y&R.'

The fact we haven't heard from JWT if they've already offered interviews isn't filling me with hope!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

On the BMB website it says "We'll contact everyone in the week following the 17th November to let you know whether we'd like to meet you face to face " .....so I guess that means Monday or Tuesday!!

Anonymous said...

This is anonymous on 16th (call me Fred) I got the interview with jwt on the 16th, just got an interview with RKCR/Y&R, DKLW said no first though, that was probably the 14th,

Anonymous said...

Yep, according to BMB on Twitter, we'll be hearing from them by this afternoon.

Did anyone receive a confirmation email from them when you emailed your CV?

After graduation, one option is to continue studying. For this is a list of agencies linked to this. It is important to note the dates of postulation and when they close the calls.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if there's a delay with CHI getting back to people?

They haven't stated that they've contacted successful applicants yet... I hope they let me know either way...!

Anonymous said...

Got a CHI&Partners interview for friday- only just heard from them

Anonymous said...

I realised that CHI had contacted me on friday about an interview but it had gone into my junk mail folder so only read it today....so those who are waiting to hear maybe check your junk mail?
