I just wanted to get a little information on the application procedure, is there some sort of opening for a specific time period when one can apply or is it a year round process?Sheraz Aminhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15416352128525606752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-77763610607267412902009-01-08T08:42:00.000+00:002009-01-08T08:42:00.000+00:00just found this! what a brilliant post from jon. h...just found this! what a brilliant post from jon. he is a great planner and an extremely nice person. the final rounds are usually around this time of year, so good luck to all!Ameliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17917442239241569953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-34456907906028019072008-12-30T01:34:00.000+00:002008-12-30T01:34:00.000+00:00Nice Thanks alot Will!! yeah I've been told that i...Nice Thanks alot Will!! yeah I've been told that it is essential to get along with your interviewer.

This may sound like a daft question but what exactly do you mean by 'think laterally'?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-4889927038835158682008-12-26T16:55:00.000+00:002008-12-26T16:55:00.000+00:00zmaB:Having interviewed for the program twice, I c...zmaB:

Having interviewed for the program twice, I can give you this piece of advice:

Don't prepare as if it's an ad interview. Prepare for a communications interview - the overall mix, from PR to sales promotion to politics.

I found it most like an Oxbridge interview than any of the others - it's a test of you as an interesting person, and if you can think laterally. If you have any examples of the latter which relate, I think they'll be prized.Willhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01456742697462240308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-18231071546303886722008-12-23T18:35:00.000+00:002008-12-23T18:35:00.000+00:00I managed to get a interview and my application wa...I managed to get a interview and my application was generally a hour long stand up comedy special. Well I'm not too sure what to expect from the interview. I've read Truth lies and Advertising, Perfect Pitch, Ogilvy on Advertising and I'm reading Good to Great. I still not too sure what to expect from the interview any tips? I really want this!!! I never worked for any of WPP's companies, therefore I am not sure how good it truely is. However, I feel I was respected as a job applicant. Some company I met before even ignored e-mails I sent or did not notify whether I am in or not. You might say "come on, it is how it happens all the time." But come on, it is also about whether a company does respect others, even though you have not put your feet in yet. Thank you, WPP.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-91576799173851722612008-12-12T19:42:00.000+00:002008-12-12T19:42:00.000+00:00I was one of the many to sadly go into the 'no' pi...I was one of the many to sadly go into the 'no' pile this year. Of course I was pretty bummed, having put a lot of effort into the applications, but I have to say that all of the support, the e-mails and, like Dale above has mentioned, the 'human' process, has left me with a feeling of hope and the will to persist rather than feeling like a failure.

Jon, I've heard loads of good things about you and your presence on this blog and online confirms it!

Best of luck to the 108 people who were shortlisted this year.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-69511706102861618102008-12-11T11:28:00.000+00:002008-12-11T11:28:00.000+00:00Honesty, I'd like to respond to your post if I may...Honesty, I'd like to respond to your post if I may. I'm in my second year of the WPP Fellowship, currently working for one of the group's agencies in Asia.

Last year WPP hired eleven Fellows and in my intake there are ten of us. We're drawn from all over the world and get on fantastically well. we're united not by our similarities, but by our differences; we have vastly different backgrounds, interests and experiences, and in many cases grew up in totally different cultures. More than most companies, I think that WPP definitely doesn't look for a 'type'.

Like everyone hired before us, we went through WPP's very thorough recruitment process. I actually found it to be the most human and transparent of the many I applied to. The fact that the director of the program is posting his thoughts on the application forms he received to blogs and social networks is surely evidence of that.

It is true that one or two of us (but by no means the majority) had interned at WPP companies before, but that is because, as a group, we're fascinated by the world of marketing communications and wanted to try our hand at it as early as we could. If that gives someone an edge in an interview it's because they show a passion for the business, and certainly not because they made a few contacts.

So, I'm not sure who you heard this information from, but I couldn't disagree with it more! The WPP Fellowship is an amazing opportunity, and anyone who completes an application is rewarded with a fair chance of gaining an interview. I would encourage everyone to apply!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-44315790040075535902008-12-10T17:05:00.000+00:002008-12-10T17:05:00.000+00:00i really would like to know the calibre of people ...i really would like to know the calibre of people that applied to WPP. from what i've heard, they are not taking a lot of grads this year and also, i heard they will choose interns and friends of workers before anyone. i think this whole application is a mess and very very shady! i wish firms could be honest in their decesions and not be scared or feel pressured to choose a certain person cause of who they know but rather their accomplishments.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2770497813535864740.post-78919079653812142102008-12-10T09:34:00.000+00:002008-12-10T09:34:00.000+00:00Hi everyone,Our emails went out yesterday, and to ...Hi everyone,

Our emails went out yesterday, and to my horror I discovered this morning that the 'sorry but we won't be inviting you for an interview' version was cut off before the end.

I just want to let you know that the full note should reach you today. I'm embarrassed by the problems, and angry that our technical partner (an outside company) has let us down so badly. We try very hard to ensure that we communicate clearly and quickly with everyone who applies; not just because of all the work you put in, but because it's the right thing to do.

I'm sure no one would mind a 'yes' note being cut off, but when it's a 'no' it's much worse. I apologize on behalf of everyone at WPP.

Best wishes

Jon SteelAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
